Dear Black Bear Families,

Happy New Year. It was a great first week of 2025 at Ecole Poirier. Our Grade 5s learned about Late French Immersion at Journey for September start. This is an exciting new opportunity that is being offered in our community. Please see the information attached. 

Next week we will be having an assembly for Black Excellence Day; Black Excellence Day is a lead up to Black History Month (February) and an opportunity to rejoice Black history and learn about Black stories, Black art and Black people, and a day to stand in solidarity with Black Canadians. At Poirier we cherish diversity.

• Parking: Thank you for observing handicap spaces. Please do not park off road on the grass or beside red curbs. 
• Be prepared (for fun): Please ensure your children have a change of school for slip and falls. This makes for a quick change and they can carry on with their day. Students go outside every day for up to an hour or more. There are no indoor days on the Wet Coast 🙂
• Join us for one, or all, of our drop-in Pop-Up Play Events.  This is an opportunity for Sooke children entering Kindergarten, in Fall 2025, to join a Kindergarten play time outside.  Please come to any school, not just your future school.  Come meet other children entering Kindergarten as well as current Kindergarten students, teachers, and staff. Siblings are welcome!

• The sign up for the Walking School Bus to Poirier is attached! Please have a look and see if this will work for your family. It is a great way to increase physical activity, reduce car congestion, and support community building and friendships.
