January 18, 2019

Dear Panther Families,

As we near the end of January we also find ourselves in a busy part of the school year.  We are sending a gentle reminder to our families that our first bell is at 8:45. We understand that occasionally students are unable to arrive on time, for a variety of reasons.  We will continue to warmly welcome our students whenever they arrive.  However, it would be helpful for classrooms and the office to have fewer students arriving after the bell. Thank you for your efforts.

Weather Appropriate Clothing

With more seasonal weather upon us, please remember to dress your child appropriately for the conditions. In general, and weather permitting, we believe it is best for students to be outside at break times for fresh air and exercise. Having warm and waterproof clothing, boots, dry socks and gloves at school or in a backpack is very helpful and reduces the need for students calling home for these items to be brought to school by parents.

Reminder: No pets on school property

A friendly reminder that dogs and other pets are not allowed on school property. While we’re sure you clean up after your dog, accidents do happen. For health and sanitary reasons, pets are not allowed inside or outside on school property.

At times students and teachers might seek approval from the Principal to bring in a pet. We make sure there aren’t any allergies or specific concerns anyone in the school may have. Examples when a pet may be granted access on school property include:

  • Vision, hearing and service dogs.
  • Police dogs under the control of a police officer.
  • Pets for show-and-tell.
  • Small pets kept in classrooms under the supervision and care of a teacher.
  • A demonstration at a school assembly.

Thank you for your understanding and for adhering to the school district’s policy D-121 about this matter. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority at École Poirier.
