November 16, 2018

It was a short but busy week here at Ecole Poirier. One of the many highlights was guest Lorna Schultz Nicholson, a Canadian author of several children’s books who shared her background along with the process of writing with the children. Lorna’s picture books as well as some of her chapter books will soon be available in our very own library!

Toys at school
Please have your students keep toys, slime, playing cards, etc at home, unless your classroom teacher is planning an activity with them. The classroom teacher will communicate directly with their class parents if they are allowing any toys or stuffies from home.
During lunch, students have many activities to join:
• peer helper-run activities (art and games)
• Gaga ball
• the new playground
• tetherball
• basketball
• schlockey
• the forest area, etc.
With all of these choices, there are many individual or group activities to join in, everyday; everyone is welcome.
We have had a particularly difficult time with Bey Blades, Shopkins and Pokemon cards being traded and stolen. These items should not come to school. The school is not responsible for personal play items brought by students.

Parent-Teacher Conferences
Information on the Thursday, November 22nd Parent-Teacher Conferences was sent home by classroom teachers last week. Please contact them if you missed that information. We look forward to seeing you on the 22nd.

Lost and Found
We are overwhelmed with the volume of items left in our lost and found each week. In order to keep items organized, we are bundling up items when the cupboards reach capacity and keeping the clothing in bags in our storage for a couple of weeks. Students and parents are able to come and go through the bags anytime. We try to reunite items labeled with a student’s name, so please keep marking them.

Joyeux Noel Craft Fair
Saturday December 8th 10am-4pm, Poirier Gymnasium
The second annual Poirier Christmas Craft fair is quickly approaching! We hope you’ll join us for some wonderful food, entertainment, and a wide variety of vendors. The Poirier choir will be performing, there will be kids cooking lessons with Indecent Risotto and photos with Santa!  Please check under the PARENTS menu tab and then the Parents Advisory Council for the latest PAC Newsletter.
